Eddie Ray
This placard on the front of the N.C. Music Hall of Fame is from the Mike Curb Family Foundation, to honor Mr. Eddie Ray, Operations Director, and Vice Chairman of the N.C. Music Hall of Fame. Ray was also an inductee into the Hall of Fame. He is a Franklin N.C. native and was a major music producer in the American music industry. And also worked for the Federal Government for better music law and right's reform. Mike Curb is the founder of "Curb Record's", and the owner of "Curb Racing".
The "5" Royales
Starting as a Gospel group in the 1940's "The Royal Sons" of Winston-Salem N.C. started their R&B career on The Apollo label with two number one hits on the R&B charts. They hit the Pop charts in 1957 with "Think" and "Dedicated to the one I love" They stop performing in 1965.
Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane
North Carolina is home to Jazz, musician and composer the late, Thelonious Monk, 1917-1982 who was born in Rocky Mount N.C. He started playing piano at age six. His family moved to New York while he was at a young age and he got his start at Minton's Playhouse in NYC. He never had formal music lessions.
And John Coltrane, musician and composer who was born in Hamlet N.C. but grew up in High Point N.C. and was educated in a Quaker school (William Penn School). Where he was taught music.

Both Monk and Coltrane are two of the best Jazz musician, composer's of their time.
Archie Bell and The Drells.
Although Soul Singer "Archie Bell And The Drells" are not native to North Carolina. The group has had a huge effect on N.C. Beach Music. And has played hundreds of events here. The group started in Houston TX. And their first number one hit was the song, "Tighten' Up" a song with a dance that Archie Bell and The Drells made up to go with the song. It rose to # 1 on the R&B and Pop charts and stayed at top ten for eight weeks in 1968. It was Alantic Records 17th largest selling single. The group had many hits after that like, "Theres gonna be a show down" and "I can't stop dancing", "Wrap it up". Plus "Let's Groove" and "She's so beautiful" were used in the 70's movie "Car Wash". The Disco era saw more hits like "Where will you go when the partys over" and the fore-named "Lets Groove" I can't stop dancing" and "Wrap it up". They were produced by Bunny Sigler and songwriters Gamble and Huff. Archie Bell went solo with Becket Records, and was a winner of "The Cammy Awards" (beach music award), he still sings concerts to this day. Join Archie Bell's Fan Club at www.facebook.com
